Scholarships at Rangi Ruru

We offer a number of entrance scholarships at Year 7 and Year 9. These include academic, music and general excellence.

Scholarship registration starts at the beginning of Term 2. All applicants must complete an application for enrolment and scholarship registration form and will then sit examinations at school. A fee of $100 applies. All pre-enrolled girls will be sent scholarship information and registration forms.

Scholarship Types

Years 7 and 9

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School is pleased to offer Scholarships for girls entering Year 7 and Year 9 in 2019. Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence, for excellence in music and all-round ability.

Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents and currently in Year 6 or Year 8 to be eligible to sit the Scholarship examinations.

Years 10-13 Scholarships

Applications for Years 10-13 General Excellence Scholarships are now open. Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents to be eligible for these scholarships. Current Rangi Ruru students in Years 10-13 are eligible to apply.

Year 7 Entrance Scholarships

Academic Scholarships

The number and value of these scholarships is determined on an annual basis. They are awarded for academic excellence, however, high performance in other areas is taken into consideration. These scholarships are offered for between 25-50% of tuition fees for two years.

General Excellence Scholarships

The number and value of these scholarships is determined on an annual basis. These are awarded to girls who show strength and potential in two or more of the following areas: academic, cultural, sporting and leadership. These scholarships are offered for between 25-50% of tuition fees for two years. If a girl has a special strength in Music, please note this and be prepared to attend an audition if required.

Stellar Music Scholarships

The number and value of these scholarships is determined on an annual basis. These are awarded for music excellence, with other talents are taken into consideration. These are usually for between 25-50% of tuition fees for two years.

Rangi Ruru Old Girls’ Association Scholarship

The Rangi Ruru Old Girls’ Association scholarship provides $4,000 per annum, credited against tuition fees, for two years. The student awarded the Rangi Ruru Old Girls’ Association scholarship will be the daughter of a Rangi Ruru Old Girl.

Year 9 Entrance Scholarships

Academic Scholarships

General Excellence Scholarship including the Rangi 125 Scholarship

The number and value of these scholarships is determined on an annual basis. These are awarded to girls who show strength and potential in two or more of the following areas: academic, cultural, sporting and leadership. These scholarships are offered for between 25-50% of tuition fees for up to five years. If a girl has a special strength in Music, please note this and be prepared to attend an audition if required.

Boarding Scholarships

Boarding scholarships, including the Nancy S.B. McMillan Boarding Scholarship for $5,000 per annum, are offered at Year 9 entry level and available for up to five years of boarding.

Stellar Music Scholarships

The number and value of these scholarships is determined on an annual basis. These are awarded for music excellence, with other talents are taken into consideration. These are usually for between 25-50% of tuition fees for up to five years.

Years 10-13 Scholarships

General Excellence Scholarships

General Excellence Scholarships are awarded to girls who show strength and potential in two or more of the following areas; academic, cultural, sporting or leadership. They can be awarded for entry at any level from Years 10 to 13 and usually for between 25-50% of tuition fees. They are open to current and new students to Rangi Ruru. If a girl has a special strength in Music, please note this and be prepared to attend an audition if required.

Costs

A $100 registration fee is required for girls to sit scholarship. Those who have already submitted a General Application for enrolment, do not have to pay an additional fee. Any girl whose mother is an Old Girl of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School, are exempt from this fee. For those students who are successful in gaining a scholarship to Rangi Ruru, this will be credited to their account when they commence with us.

General Information

The examinations will be held at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School. All applicants, except those for Years 10 -13 General Excellence, must sit this examination. Stellar Music Scholarship plus any other required auditions, will be held at Rangi Ruru.

Full details of the examination day will be emailed to you once registrations have closed. Those selected for a Stellar Music Scholarship or other audition will be contacted regarding their audition time.

Those students who sit Scholarship in Year 7 are eligible to sit for the Year 9 Rangi Ruru Entrance Scholarship examinations when they are in Year 8.

Scholarship Offers

Following the Scholarship examination for Years 7 and 9, an email confirming the process from here onwards will be sent to all students who sat the Scholarship exam.

For those applying for Years 10 – 13, a short-list of candidates will be made. Those that have been short listed will be contacted to attend an interview, if this has not already been completed. All applicants will be contact to advise the outcome of the 2019 scholarship round. The final process can take two to three weeks.

Rangi Ruru Senior Performing Arts Scholarship

The Rangi Ruru Senior Performing Arts Scholarship provides for 50% of tuition fees and is available from time to time to a day girl or boarder new to the school and entering in either Year 11, 12 or 13, for the remaining years of her secondary schooling. The Scholarship is not offered every year, and becomes available for a new Scholar once the current Scholarship holder completes her education at Rangi Ruru. Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Residents.
