Scholarships at Rangi Ruru

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School offers scholarship opportunities to highly motivated girls with abilities across many areas of life.

These areas include Academic, Music, Sport, Leadership and Cultural contributions and talents. In order to be considered for these prestigious scholarships, girls must be willing to contribute and participate fully in the life of Rang Ruru, upholding our values and embracing our spirit. Thee sought-after opportunities are for girls entering Year 7 or 9.

Our scholarship recipients are not only given financial support to attend Rangi Ruru, they are immersed in programmes that ensure they reach their full potential

Registration for the 2021 Year 7 and 9 Scholarships are now open. A fee of $100 applies.

All pre-enrolled and enquiry girls will be automatically sent scholarship information and registration forms.

All registrations close on Friday 15 May at 4:00pm. No late entries will be accepted.

Important Information

  • Registrations close Friday 15 May at 4.00pm. No late entries will be accepted.
  • Examination for Years 7 and 9 will be held Wednesday 27 May at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School. Please note that due to the current situation with Covid-19, Scholarship examinations and auditions are subject to change.
    • Arrival of students to Rangi Ruru between 1.00-1.15pm to Merivale Lane Theatre, where they will be taken to their assigned classrooms.
    • Exams start at 1.15pm and will conclude by 4.00pm.
    • Confirmed information about the exam day will be advised closer to the exam day.
  • Stellar Music Scholarship entrants selected to audition will be contacted directly by the school regarding if they have been awarded an audition or not.

Scholarship Types

Years 7 and 9

Rangi Ruru Girls’ School is pleased to offer Scholarships for girls entering Year 7 and Year 9 in 2021. Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence, for excellence in music and all-round ability.

Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents and currently in Year 6 or Year 8 to be eligible to sit the Scholarship examinations.

Years 10-13 Scholarships

Rangi Ruru offers a General Excellence Scholarship for girls in Years 10-13. Applicants must be New Zealand Citizens or Permanent Residents to be eligible for these scholarships. Current Rangi Ruru students in Years 10-13 are eligible to apply. These scholarships applications will be available in Term 3.

Year 7 Entrance Scholarships

Academic Scholarships

The number and value of these scholarships is determined on an annual basis. Students must demonstrate academic performance in our Scholarship Entrance Examination. High performance in other academic competitions may be taken into consideration These scholarships are offered for two years.

General Excellence Scholarships

Students must demonstrate a high level of achievement and participation in to or more of our four identified areas: academic, leadership, sport, cultural. These scholarships are offered for two years. If an applicant has a special strength in music as part of the Cultural component, please note this on the application form and be prepared to attend an audition if required.

Stellar Music Scholarships

Excellence in Music. After application, a selected group are auditioned for approximately 20 minutes. If selected, the audition will consist of a short performance of two contrasting pieces, aural tests, sight reading and a brief discussion on the music performed/applicant involvement in music. Shortlisted applicants must provide an accompanist at their cost or may use a backing track if appropriate. Further details will be given on notification of selection for audition. These scholarships are offered for two years.

Rangi Ruru Old Girls’ Association Scholarship

For Year 7 entry for two years awarded to the daughter or granddaughter of a Rangi Old Girl. An academically able girl will be supported to continue her journey.

Year 9 Entrance Scholarships

Academic Scholarships

Boarding Scholarships

For a Year 9 entering Boarding, awarded for five years at a value of $5000.00 per annum. A girl who shows dedication to academic study and all-round abilities.

Costs

A $100 registration fee is required for girls to sit Scholarship. Those who have already submitted a General Application for enrolment do not have to pay an additional fee. Any girl whose mother is an Old Girl of Rangi Ruru Girls’ School are exempt from this fee. For those students who are successful in gaining a scholarship to Rangi Ruru, this will be credited to their account when they commence with us.

General Information

The examinations will be held at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School on Wednesday 27 May 2020. All applicants for Year 7 and 9 scholarship must sit this examination. Stellar Music Scholarship plus any others required auditions, will be held at Rangi Ruru on Thursday 4 June 2020 in the Performing Arts Building at Rangi Ruru Girls’ School

Full details of the examination day will be emailed to you once registrations have closed on Friday 15 May at 4.00pm. Those selected for a Stellar Music Scholarship or other audition will be contacted regarding their audition time.

Those students who sit Scholarship in Year 7 are eligible to sit for the Year 9 Rangi Ruru Entrance Scholarship examinations when they are in Year 8.

Scholarship Offers

Following the Scholarship examination for Years 7 and 9, an email confirming the process from here onwards will be sent to all students who sat the Scholarship exam. The final process can take two to three weeks.

If you are pre-enrolled or already on our enquiry list these forms will automatically be sent to you. Registrations close on Friday 15 May at 4.00pm. No late entries will be accepted.
