All girls from Years 7 to 9 study Music as part of the curriculum. Performance and contemporary music courses are offered as an option to girls in Years 9 and 10. Music is also offered for NCEA levels 1-3, and for scholarship. Our NCEA music results are consistently well above the average for New Zealand and several girls have been successful in obtaining music scholarships.
Girls are able to engage in the study of music at many levels. Opportunities are available for instrumental and vocal performers, composers, and songwriters; for the classical musician through to the jazz and contemporary musician and for girls with an interest in music through to the very able musician.
To support and enhance our Music curriculum programme, Rangi offers a wide range of co-curricular programme including: Resolutions, Junior Chorale, Barbershop ensembles, Rangi Sinfonia, Jazz Band and Jazz Combo, Chamber Music groups, Rangi Players, percussion, flute and recorder ensembles and rock bands.
Girls regularly perform as soloists or in groups at assemblies and services, in school productions and concerts, as well as at regional and national competitions.
