Leadership
Friendships are fostered across the school by student involvement in activities and 'big sisters' providing support and guidance to younger students. Year 13 Students and Senior LeadersAll Year 13 students wear name badges and blue and gold braid on their blazers. They are involved in committees for the management of the school, working with staff members. There are seven student ‘Heads'- Head of School, Head of House, Head of Cultural Activities, Head of Community Service, Head of Environment, Head of Form Activities and Head of Sport. Senior students meet regularly with the Principal and members of school management to discuss school organisation and school-wide initiatives. Various areas of school life are organised by committees of Senior Students, each with a Senior Leader: Community Service, Cultural, Environment, Form Activities and Sport. There is also a Head of the Boarding House and Head of the Day School appointed. Senior girls provide support and leadership to junior girls through club activities - International Club, Environmental Group, through clan activities and through the Year 13 Form Senior system. We emphasise a strong family support culture - the encouragement to use one hand to try new things and to leave a hand free to help others.
There is always something happening at Rangi Ruru. During the year there are many themed weeks. Led by Senior students, themed weeks involve a wide variety of activities and competitions related to the theme and are enjoyed by the entire school. These regularly include 'Sea Week', 'Summertimes', 'Love Week', "International Week", and "Health Awareness Week". In addition to being a great deal of fun, the aim of themed weeks is to increase awareness and develop understanding of personal, national or global issues and how we can all, and individually, make a difference. Themed weeks usually include one or more specific activities which get girls involved in a relevant cause related to the theme. These weeks are greatly anticipated and enjoyed by all students. Clans
School-wide Leadership Training and OpportunitiesThe importance of leadership training in developing independence, communication skills and confidence is incorporated into the daily education environment at Rangi Ruru.
Rangi seeks to teach girls how to use their influence in a positive way - be it through sport, community service, cultural, environmental or sporting committees. Year 12 girls work closely with Year 9 through the Peer Support programme. Each sport has a Captain who is responsible, with the teacher in charge, for organising practices, coaching, supplying results, and maintaining enthusiasm. As a school, Rangi shows educational leadership and sets standards that others follow – such as starting Personal Development Plans (PDPs) for every student, introducing In Residence programmes for artists and writers and being the first New Zealand school to go online on the Internet. |

Theme Weeks
The school has six clans named after Scottish castles - Balmoral, Glamis, Doune, Stirling, Dunvegan and Braemar. These allow vertical groupings of students from Years 7 to 13 to compete against one another in many school activities.
Girls receive leadership training and many opportunities to have input into the direction of their school both in teams and as individuals.
