Academic Achievements 2006
Rangi Ruru students achieved an impressive 38 Scholarships over 15 subjects, including 6 at the level of Outstanding Performance.
Outstanding Scholar awards were achieved by two students, Ann Jiyoun Kim and Sarah-Jayne Stevenson. This achievement includes a scholarship of $5,000 a year for three years.
Scholarship Awards were awarded to Zhou Zhou, Ann Jiyoun Kim and Sarah-Jayne Stevenson. This achievement includes a scholarship of $2,000 a year for three years.
Top Subject Scholarships awarded to Year 12 student Yun Liu in Japanese and Sarah-Jayne Stevenson in Biology. This achievement includes a scholarship of $2,000 a year for three years.
Scholarships at the level of Outstanding Performance , which place students in the top 3% of scholarship awards, were achieved by Sarah-Jayne Stevenson for History ( 1 of 10 in NZ ) and Biology, Brylee Flutey and Victoria Jenkins for Visual Arts ( 2 of 18 in NZ ), Yun Liu for Japanese and Ann Jiyoun Kim for Mathematics with Statistics ( 1 of 45 in NZ ).
Overall, 2006 Scholarships were achieved by students across a wide range of subject areas, including: Visual Arts ( 11 scholarships including 2 Outstanding Performances ), English ( 5 scholarships ), Statistics and Modelling ( 4 scholarships, including 1 Outstanding Performance ), Classical Studies ( 3 scholarships ), Music Studies ( 2 scholarships ), Media Studies ( 2 scholarships ), Biology ( 3 scholarships, including 1 Outstanding Performance ), History ( 1 Outstanding Performance ), Japanese ( 1 Outstanding Performance ), Chemistry ( 1 scholarship ), Physics ( 1 scholarship ), Drama ( 1 scholarship ), Accounting ( 1 scholarship ), Geography ( 1 scholarship ), Physical Education ( 1 scholarship ).

Congratulations also to our 2006 school leavers who have been awarded the following Tertiary Scholarships :
- Anna Brettell received a University of Canterbury Emerging Leaders ' Scholarship (Women in Engineering).
- Laura Cotter received a University of Canterbury Business and Economics Scholarship (Professor June Pallot Scholarship in Accounting).
- Hazel Timperley received one of two CRT Seed / Agricom Scholarships (the second year in a row for a former Rangi Ruru student) from Lincoln University.
- Lauren Maciaszek, received a Scholarship for Excellence from Lincoln University . This pays tuition fees and an additional $4,000 each year for her degree. Lauren also gained a New Zealand Scholarship in Geography.
- Olivia van der Pol received a Future Leaders' Scholarship from Lincoln University.
- Emily Close received a Prime Minister's Athlete Scholarship, managed by the New Zealand Academy of Sport. This scholarship aims to assist talented and elite athletes achieve tertiary and vocational qualifications while pursuing excellence in sport. The scholarship pays all Emily's tuition fees.
