Entrance Scholarships for 2013:
The dates for the 2013 Entrance Scholarship Examinations will be set in early 2012.  Scholarship registration forms will be available at the beginning of May 2012. If you are on the Rangi Ruru waitlist, we will contact you with information regarding scholarships closer to the date.

There are a number of Entrance Scholarships awarded to New Zealand Citizens / Residents each year.  Scholarship registration forms will be available for download from here from May 2012.

Currently, there is no charge for sitting the Scholarship examinations and students do not need to be enrolled on our waiting list for entry in order to sit the examinations.

Completing Scholarship registration forms enters students for the Scholarship examinations only and does not mean they have been enrolled on our waiting list for general entry to the school. An Application for Enrolment form needs to be completed for the general waiting list for entry to the school. Students on our waiting list for entry are automatically sent scholarship information and registration forms at the beginning of Term 2 in the year prior to their entry. If you are not on our waiting list for entry you will need to contact the Scholarships Officer, phone 03 983 3726 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it  for the forms to be posted to you.  All applicants for the examinations must complete the Scholarship Registration forms and return by the due date. These are updated each year and will be available from late April / early May. All candidates must sit the examinations at the school on the same day. Sample papers from previous examinations are not available. Individual results of the examinations remain confidential to the school.

dibble2009Rangi Ruru Entrance Scholarships for students entering Year 9

The Year 9 Entrance Scholarship examinations (both Academic and Music Auditions) are usually held in mid June each year.

Academic and/or Music Scholarships - The number and value of these scholarships are determined on an annual basis and are currently awarded for academic and/or music excellence. They are usually for between 25-50% of tuition fees.

The Nancy S.B. McMillan Boarding Scholarship - A boarding scholarship is also offered at Year 9 entry level for $5,000 per annum and is available for up to five years of boarding.


Rangi Ruru Old Girls' Association Scholarship for a student entering at Year 7
A scholarship providing $3,000 per annum, credited against tuition fees for two years, is offered for students entering at Year 7. The student does not need to be a descendant of an Old Girl.
The examinations for the Year 7 Scholarship are held in late May / early June each year.


NZ Government Aspire Scholarships

Each year the NZ Government offers Aspire Scholarships to New Zealand students. These scholarships are intended to provide assistance for low income New Zealand families towards the costs of private secondary schooling. Currently the Government will contribute up to $15,000 per year towards the fees of a private school for the duration of a student’s attendance at the school. It will also include a yearly allowance of up to $1,500, to cover course related costs.

Blue Sky Scholarships 2012

Rangi Ruru Blue Sky Scholarships - Christchurch Earthquake Support
Scholarships for students entering Year 9 in 2013

The Rangi Ruru Blue Sky Scholarships are a special initiative by the Rangi Ruru Girls' School Board of Governors to offer the opportunity of an education beyond the ordinary for up to ten Christchurch girls whose families have been significantly affected by the earthquake, in terms of personal loss, housing or business.

The Scholarships will be offered for Year 9 entry in 2012 and 2013 only and are for a five year period, subject to annual review of continued academic progress, school involvement and attitude. They are for 50% of tuition fees.  Girls must be New Zealand Citizens or Residents, be academically able, display all round excellence and a commitment to learning.

Students who gain Scholarships benefit from Rangi Ruru's high standards of excellence, and their contribution to school life is valued.

Note:  
• Current tuition fees for 2011 are (inclusive of GST) – Year 9 Day Student - $16,110.00 per annum (for New Zealand students)
• Boarding fees (where applicable) - $11,925.00 per annum
• Incidentals including uniform, stationery, outdoor education camp etc approximately $2,500.00 per annum
(Information on 2012 fees will be available from our website from the beginning of December 2011)

Once those offered Scholarships have confirmed their acceptance, all Scholarship entrants will be contacted by letter to advise the outcome of their application.  This process can take two to three weeks.

Scholarships for current Rangi Ruru students

Scholarships available to current students through Rangi Ruru include the McRae Peacock and Janice Perry Scholarships, the Jessie Cook Music Scholarship and the St Andrew's at Rangi Ruru Organ Scholarship. Notice regarding how and when to apply for these scholarships is communicated through the school newsletter, In Touch.

Jessie Cook Music Scholarship
The Jessie Cook Music Scholarship is awarded annually as a result of a legacy to the school from Jessie Cook, who was a student at Rangi Ruru in 1908.  The scholarship will be given to a student in either Year 12 or 13 who shows musical promise and contributes significantly to co-curricular music activities at Rangi Ruru.  Preference will be given to students taking Music as a full subject. 

Except in exceptional circumstances, the Jessie Cook Music Scholarship will be awarded to a girl not holding a Rangi Ruru Music Scholarship.  The value of the scholarship is $2,000; either awarded as one $2,000 or two $1,000 scholarships.

The St Andrew’s at Rangi Ruru Organ Scholarship
Applications are welcomed from current Rangi students for The St Andrew’s at Rangi Ruru Organ Scholarship.
This is a new scholarship, offered for the first time for 2011. It will be awarded annually as a result of the generous support of the St Andrew’s at Rangi Ruru Parish.

The Scholarship provides for weekly organ lessons by Russell Kent, as part of the ITM programme. The value of the scholarship is $1,000 per annum, and will be available for two years. Initially it will be available on a one year tenure commencing in 2011. The 2011 recipient is eligible to apply for it again in 2012 if she has satisfied the conditions and terms of the scholarship.

The successful applicant will be a girl who -
a) is a current Rangi Ruru student from Year 9 and above, with preference given to a girls wishing to start playing the organ.
b) is a competent pianist to at least Grade 5 level and who shows musical promise.
c) has the intention to keep on with her piano lessons in addition to the organ lessons.

McRae Peacock and Janice Perry Scholarships
• McRae Peacock Scholarship (up to $4,000), and the
• Janice Perry Scholarship (up to $1,000).
These scholarships, which are funded by legacies, are awarded in general to students entering Year 12, but may go to someone in Year 13, who has achieved a high standard of academic work and who has contributed in various ways to school life and would benefit from this financial assistance.
