Enrichment Programmes

Some aspects of our curriculum are taught in a less formal manner and teaching continues across all year levels.

Year9camp2009Learning happens through interpreting experience. Rangi girls get the opportunity to make learning more relevant and exciting through practical experience and by taking part in the school’s projects. These involve teaching staff and girls from across the school and businesses or individuals from our wider school community.

Hands-on experience is also gained through participation in the Young Enterprise competition, in which Rangi teams have been award winners at national level for several years.

Year Level camps provide opportunities for girls to develop confidence through trying new activities and testing their own boundaries.

All students participate in a structured Christian Living programme which includes religious, social and health education. Rangi Ruru is associated with the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa NZ but girls from many different religious traditions give the school a multi-faith perspective.

AIR2009It is also intended that each student should develop an awareness of Tikanga Maori and Te Reo. This is developed through teaching programmes which introduce Maori ideas as appropriate and during informal situations where there is greater opportunity for learning, explanation and discussion.

Each year, the school engages resident artists and writers through the Rangi Ruru In-Residence Programme. These visual and performing arts professionals work closely with the girls, in a mentoring and hands-on capacity. Together they develop a piece of finished work. The whole school community has the opportunity to celebrate the works created by the girls and their in-residence mentor.

Activities and Clubs

Outwardbound2009Apart from Sport and Cultural and Creative pursuits, Rangi has many Clubs and lunchtime or after-school activities.

These Clubs enable students to pursue their interests. They also provide an opportunity to make friends across the school and develop their leadership and team skills.

Girls have the opportunity to participate in many clubs and activities outside the classroom, including International Club, The Hague International Model United Nations, Chess, Technology Support (Tech Angels), Laboratory Assistants, Library Monitors, Young Enterprise, The Duke of Edinburgh's Hillary Award, Young Farmers, Outward Bound, Debating, Speech and Drama, Cultural Exchanges.
