School Philosophy

Rangi Ruru is a family school, and living as a Christian community is a prime purpose of the school. Every girl is important and is encouraged to share and care for others, and to gain a sense of personal worth and achievement.staffandgirls

At the core of Rangi Ruru's philosophy is a commitment to the needs of individual students and close relationships with our parent and student community.

Rangi Ruru recognises and reflects the cultures, beliefs, ethnicities and social backgrounds that make up our school and our local, national and international communities. This approach is reflected through our relationships with each other within the school and with our wider school community.

The aim of the school is to provide high quality independent education for girls in a stimulating and supportive environment with excellence as the goal for every student. The programmes offered and the values upheld by the school are:
  • To provide an extensive and stimulating range of academic, creative, sporting, practical, social and vocational experiences
  • To provide opportunities for initiative, independence and leadership
  • To provide care and support in a Christian environment which fosters self confidence, tolerance and concern for others
  • To encourage each student to identify and develop her full potential and to seek excellence
  • To foster the development of young women who are confident, enthusiastic, well educated and equipped with a range of social and academic skills
  • To maintain a proactive stance in the educational community
Values education is central to the school’s philosophy. Girls are encouraged to develop an understanding of their responsibilities as a local, national and global citizens. All Rangi girls are provided many opportunities to be involved in community service and environmental initiatives. A strong pastoral, mentoring and support network operates in the school. As well as support from their teachers, tutors and peers, girls can access a wide range of additional pastoral support from their Year Level Dean, the School Chaplain and Guidance Counsellor.

Rangi Values

The following of this code of behaviour by the Rangi Ruru community will mean that a sense of personal worth and integrity will be fostered in each person.

The Five Core Values - R A N G I

Aroha a sense of inclusiveness, a sense of trust and belonging
ENdeavour and eNthusiasm - commitment, discipline and passion
Generosity of Spirit - service to others, compassion, tolerance, unselfishness
Integrity and Honesty

Beyond these we foster responsibility and set clear behavioural expectations and boundaries. We expect for everyone in our school community to be treated with fairness and respect at all times, and to treat others in the same way.
